We Are Family

So, an update to Relatively Speaking where pops, after 18 months of genealogy discovered he has a 1/2 brother...

In fact the family tree has a bumper harvest, there are uncles, cousins, 1/2 cousins & a 1/2 step sister (OK technically not a relative but family all the same). We discover that mum would have shared a maternity ward with a newly found close relative!

Grandpa Herbert

It is indeed a small world, pops has lived within 15 miles of his brother for the past 40 odd years and he would have driven by unknown uncles & cousins galore getting there! Emotional meetings have happened & memories shared, the Christmas card list has grown and pops learns more about his new family & his late father every day.

Grandpa Herbert was a fast bowler (cricket for the international readers), and a keen footballer. Pops now has quite a collection of plaques and trophies, some over 70 years old! Herbert was a sportsman (I wonder if this is where I have got my athletes foot from).

Discovering new family especially so close is rare, it's emotional and thankfully rewarding, exciting times indeed!

Denaby junior league trophies from the 1930s!

I am though still holding out for royalty or maybe a rich childless auntie looking for an heir!

In fact you don't have to be related if you're rich & childless and looking for an heir...
